All of us are excited about what these improvements will mean for the future of the Swope! When completed in 2026, the Swope will have a physical plan ready for the next century and facilities to carry out our mission:
The Sheldon Swope Art Museum collects, preserves and shares American art to engage a diverse audience.

With construction starting in January, our children’s programs like Art Start, Art + and Full STEAM Ahead will be conducted at other community locations. And when it’s time to build the new elevator mid-year, our building will be closed to the public until 2026,
meaning our meetings, Alliance, First Fridays, Artist on Art and other programming will be conducted elsewhere.
These improvements carry out the spirit of Sheldon’s Legacy, to provide the finest of American art, free to all. Yet disruption is expensive, and we need your help to continue to operate during this challenging period. Your gift to Sheldon’s Legacy will help support our annual operations, which will be significantly more complicated in 2025.
